Experiencing new things & immersing oneself into new cultures is a critical component of human development.
The earlier you start, the better. If that isn’t an option, start planning today to make it happen in the future.
Here are 2 playbooks on how to get started:
☝️- General Travel
🌎 Just Go – it doesn’t matter where, as long as it is new.
🌍 Become an explorer – find comfort in discomfort & continue to expand your horizon.
🌏 Talk to people – Generally speaking, people are nice & want to help.
🌎 Budget – Work hard, save, invest. Build a budget & have the discipline to stick to it. Sticking to it is what enables you to have a 2nd, 3rd, 4th trip
🌍 Never settle – Every place has its gems, sometimes you just need to look harder to find them. It is always worth it.
✌️- Vanlife
🚐Make sure you & yours can do vanlife. Rent a van, hit the road, & determine if y’all can get past the not-so-glamorous aspects.
🚐Determine what kind of vanlife you want: full time vs part time.
🚐Define your must haves & do not compromise. Ours were a shower, oven, reliable heater, & an off-grid setup.
🚐Determine if you want to buy: Prefabbed, Used, or DIY. Prefabbed will have a 2x markup & long wait but are reliable. Used may be cheaper, but will come with problems. DIYs will be your baby, but they also may never be fully born. The rig you get defines the type of vanlife possible. If your tension for adventure is extreme, you need a rig that can keep up.
🚐Sort out your life demands – If you have health needs, determine how your insurance works across state lines. If you have an animal, get their vaccines in order & print a paper copy of all their records.
🚐Embrace minimalism – you’re going to live in a tiny home on wheels. Kon Mari your shit; purge the nonessentials & store what you can’t shed. Otherwise you’ll be shedding for the whole 1st year (ask Caleigh 😝)
Lastly, find the positives in everything. Things will not always work out. Things will break, planes will be cancelled, airbnbs will be fake, & reservations will forget to be made..all this is okay.
Laugh & move on..there’s plenty of epic ahead of you.
